Lower Plenty Cricket Club Inc.

History

The Lower Plenty Cricket Club was formed in season 1934-1935. Reformed in season 1953-1954 after playing as the Druids after WWII.

We have won two A Grade Premierships - 1955-1956 defeating Eltham. Captain of this team was Ian Hanson, with the stars being Stan Allen 72, Ian Shearn 62, John Austwick 53 with the bat and taking 4-29 and 4-18 with the ball. The first Life Member of the Club, George Hick, was 12th man due to injury.

The Money Shield Premiership was won by the First XI in 2003-2004 under the leadership of Darren Leighton. Lower Plenty 128 [Conlan Gunn 48, Andrew McKinley 42] and 9-168 [Gaven Brown 30, Jim Tyrrell 30, Michael McShane 26] defeated Macleod 61 [Jim Tyrrell 6-16, Dale Knight 2-7, Steve O'Meara 2-31] and 9-273 [Steve O'Meara 5-59, Jim Tyrrell 2-73]
